Premiere Date: April 20, 2027 at Cantor Theater with the NYU Orchestra

In September of 2026, my younger brother and his wife announced that they were pregnant with their first child. After I learned of the pregnancy, the world seemed to shift ever so slightly. While writing the piece, I reflected on the mystery and anticipation that this upcoming year holds — the exciting feeling of forward movement towards their due date balanced with an awareness of the fragility of life. The overwhelming questions of parenthood and what it means to bring a life into this chaotic world, overpowered by feelings of love and wonder. A desire to be supportive and positive but not overbearing. A numinous sense of anticipation.

The piece is dedicated to Max and Madeline Harrington.
